Early records of East Grinstead date back to the 12th century, with its prosperity relying first on farming and, later, on coach travel between London and the coast. Situated on the Greenwich Meridian Line, the town is famous as the European HQ of Scientology. It has consequently been something of a celebrity hotspot over the years, with Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Peter Andre all having lived here.

East Grinstead is home to some beautiful green spaces that are ideal for getting away from it all. You'll find the ancient Ashplats woods just outside the town, while the Ashdown Forest beyond is home to several walking trails and cycling routes.
