Horley boasts a perfect location and beautiful countryside
4.5 out of 5 based on 1,062 reviews
Affordable, charming and blessed with a fantastic location on the outskirts of London, Horley is a vibrant town that enjoys a strong community feel. As well as plenty of green spaces in which to relax and unwind, the town also boasts superb facilities, such as the Archway Theatre, Teamsport Indoor Karting and kids’ favourite, the Wacky Warehouse.
Surrounded by beautiful countryside and boasting excellent transport links, property in Horley is ideally suited to commuters. However, these same qualities and the considerable number of excellent schools in the area means it's also perfect for families. Highly regarded local schools include Trinity Oaks Primary, Manorfield Primary and Oakwood Secondary. The Horley Adult Education Centre offers Higher Education courses.
Situated close to the M3 and M25, Horley benefits from easy road access to London and the South Coast. The town has its own rail station, from which trains depart every 17 minutes for London Bridge and London Victoria. Depending on your destination, this journey will take either 45 or 53 minutes.
Before the arrival of the railway in 1841, Horley was nothing more than a collection of scattered houses. After that, the town steadily increased in size. However, it wasn’t until the 1950s, when commuting into London became increasingly viable and popular, that Horley really expanded.
Horley has been home to many a famous face, most of whom choose it for its proximity to the capital and the surrounding countryside. Jack Fairman, the well-known racing driver, was from Horley and even had a pub named after him there. Dame Judi Dench also lives close by.
All major supermarkets are represented in Horley, and the town also boasts a strong selection of independent stores. The town centre features many popular chains, including Costa Coffee and Waitrose, while nearby Crawley, Redhill and Croydon all boast excellent shopping facilities, too. Our favourite places to grab a bite to eat include Shiraz, Miller & Carter and Ye Olde Six Bells. There is an abundance of excellent bars and pubs, too. Some top local spots include The Foresters and the King's Head.
