With its cliff-top walks, long stretches of beach, and fantastic views from the South Downs National Park, the town is great for nature-lovers. Independent shops, bars and restaurants line the city's Lanes, and the iconic promenade and pier make for a great day out.
Property in Peacehaven falls within the catchment area of several excellent primary and secondary schools, as well as the reputable Brighton and Plumpton colleges. For active children, the Downs provide an opportunity to explore the countryside, while the town's park is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with friends. Several sports clubs, including Peacehaven FC, ensure there's plenty of weekend activities to get involved with.
The town is within easy reach of the A26, which runs north to Tunbridge Wells and connects to the A27. Newhaven, Lewes and Brighton Stations are all within five miles of Peacehaven, with the Lewes Station running a 1 hour 10 minutes service to London that departs every 15 minutes.
Established in 1916, Peacehaven was the brainchild of the entrepreneur Charles Neville. He originally ran a competition in the Daily Express to name the town, though complications resulted in the paper suing Neville for misrepresenting the competition conditions. Though the paper eventually won the case, the publicity it provided ensured Peacehaven earned a name for itself and quickly attracted new residents.
The town itself holds a car boot every Sunday at the Dell and the presence of several pubs and restaurants, such as the Burger & Bird and The Avenue, mean there are excellent dining opportunities. However, the big draw is Peacehaven’s proximity to coastal walks and adventures in the Downs. The under-cliff stroll at Friar’s Bay and the Cuckmere Haven Circular are two highlights that you’ll never grow tired of.
Owning a property in Peacehaven means you’re able to take advantage of all of nearby Brighton’s shopping and entertainment opportunities. A multi-screen cinema and superstores can be found a few miles down the road at Brighton Marina, while the city centre is home to a remarkable number of independent bars, restaurants and boutiques.
