A SHORT HISTORY OF REIGATE

While the ancient remains of settlements beneath Reigate suggest humans have lived there since prehistoric times, the modern town can be traced back to the construction of Reigate Castle. The arrival of the London to Brighton railway in the mid 19th century encouraged significant growth, though much of this development would later be incorporated into neighbouring Redhill.

REIGATE WINDMILLS AND SPORTS CLUBS

The town is home to two windmills, both of which were constructed due to the town’s important role in the local oatmeal trade. Reigate is also well represented when it comes to sports clubs and social organisations. The Round Table, Rotary Club, Golf Club, Old Reigatian Rugby Club and two local football clubs all play a significant role in the local community. There are also three golf courses within the town boundaries.

SHOPPING AND ENTERTAINMENT IN REIGATE

Within Reigate, day to day shopping needs are met by the local Morrisons and CoOp. Redhill is just two miles to the east and boasts the large Belfry Shopping Centre, as well as several supermarket superstores and a well-equipped high street. The town's Everyman Cinema ensures you can catch all the latest blockbusters, and Reigate enjoys a diverse pub and restaurant scene, too. Our favourite spots include Cote Brasserie, Café Rouge, The Market and The Blue Anchor.
