With a population of around 11,000, Southwater has managed to retain its village charm while expanding to become a thriving community. It boasts its own country park, together with several pubs, shops, highly regarded schools, and excellent transport links thanks to its proximity to the nearby town of Horsham.
One thing that helps Southwater stand out from the crowd is its selection of schools. Property in Southwater experienced something of a boom between the Victorian era and the early 1980s thanks to the thriving brick industry. The closure of its brickworks didn't end its popularity. Today its former pits have been transformed into a country park that's loved by residents and visitors alike.

One of Southwater’s biggest claims to fame is the discovery of dinosaur bones at the site of its old brickworks. Affectionately known among locals as Iggy, the skeleton of an Iguanodon was found in what was once a prehistoric swamp and can today be seen as one of the star attractions at Worthing Museum. Within Southwater itself, you'll find a sculpture of Iggy at the heart of the shopping area in Lintot Square and an adventure play area, Dinosaur Island, situated within the scenic surroundings of Southwater Country Park.
As well as its country park – which boasts a watersports lagoon, lakeside café and plenty of cycling routes – Southwater is home to a new sports pavilion where fitness fans will find tennis courts, football pitches and many more facilities on offer. Buying a property in Southwater also gives you access to a fantastic array of local drinking and dining establishments. Top pubs include The Lintot, The Tipsy Fox and Bax Castle, while eateries, such as The Little Tea Rooms and New Haldi Indian Restaurant, are plentiful.
