Wallington is where the city meets the country
4.5 out of 5 based on 1,062 reviews
Located three miles to the west of Croydon and 11 miles to the south of London city centre, Wallington is within easy reach of the capital. However, buying a property in Wallington means you're also surrounded by a remarkable number of green spaces. With the North Downs on your doorstep, it's easy to step out into the rolling country landscapes, too.
Despite its location in Greater London, Wallington is surrounded by parkland and Grange Gardens, Carshalton Park, Mellows Park and Beddington Park are all within a few minutes walk. The town’s great community spirit is a product of its unique surroundings and has resulted in widespread support for local businesses and initiatives. These include the opening of an independent cinema and the establishment of the non-profit Sutton Community Farm.
Wallington sits within the London Borough of Sutton, one of the best-performing areas in the country when it comes to education. On top of that, three of the Borough's five grammar schools are situated in Wallington. This makes buying a property in Wallington an excellent option for those with children and any homebuyers who are considering starting a family in the near future.
Property in Wallington boasts unbeatable travel links, guaranteeing easy access to London by car, bus or train. The A23 and A273 allow for travel towards Streatham and the capital, while the M25 is also a short drive away. The town’s train station operates services to London Bridge and Victoria, both of which depart Wallington every 30 minutes.
Wallington was a small farming community until the Carshalton railway station was built in 1847, spurring more rapid growth. A parish church was established in 1867, encouraging greater development as well as the opening of the Wallington grammar schools at the turn of the century.
There can be no doubt that one of the area’s biggest attractions is its plentiful parkland and great outdoor spaces. It also benefits from a cool and quirky café scene, fantastic restaurants and a twice-monthly farmers’ market. Both Sutton and Croydon’s Valley Park Retail Centre are within a 15-minute drive of the village and boast cinemas, bowling alleys and a host of other entertainment opportunities.
The village itself is home to several well-regarded restaurants, including Ginger Frog and Pizza Express. The area is also well known for its authentic pubs, with the Greyhound and Duke's Head being two of our favourites. The local Sainsbury's and Tesco Express make the weekly shop as simple as possible, while larger stores, including an Ikea, are available in nearby Croydon.
