What the owner says

The time has come to pass on our beloved barns to new custodians. We have been blessed with a unique and tranquil home since we moved to Hamsey a generation ago. This ancient homestead, on the banks of the River Ouse offers an idyllic location at the foot of the Downs within walking distance of the county town of Lewes.

It has been our family home by the river where we have enjoyed the sense of history, the space, the views, the walks, the wildlife, the garden, log fires and the very best possible neighbours.

If you are looking for an escape to the country, but not too far from the madding crowd, come and visit us in Hamsey.

Property details

The historic Sussex parish of Hamsey lies only a few minutes drive from the vibrant county town of Lewes. The character of this substantial converted barn, thought to date back to the 17th century, and its grounds, seamlessly blend into the surrounding landscape providing an idyllic, tranquil, rural outlook and immediate access to the glorious walking, cycling and hacking opportunities across the South Downs National Park.

You will certainly be able to see the potential to create a warm and welcoming family home and have an outdoor lifestyle for you and your family. Accessed to the south of the village, on a quiet, no through road, cross over a quaint little bridge across the stream (of which you have lovely views of whilst sitting in the garden), you will find the property, currently split into four separate dwellings. The accommodation is highly flexible and could be arrange to suit extended families, home office/business or supplementary rental income.

Lewes itself provides a variety of High Street shops and independent boutiques, cafes, restaurants and traditional pubs, which make for great weekends or evenings out.
